Make the mentoring offer understandable before contact
Start with the fields a prospective mentee uses to understand a profile: areas of experience, topics the mentor welcomes and the format of the initial inquiry. Agree which details are public and which the community reviews before publication. Keep self-described experience and any independently reviewed information distinct under the approved policy. A useful profile should explain what the next action means without implying that an inquiry is already an accepted appointment.
