Model the product family, variant and selling unit together
Start with a representative family and the fields buyers use to distinguish its variants. Define the selling unit separately from the product identity, including whether packs contain a fixed quantity or vary by variant. Use terminology approved by the team that answers enquiries. If the catalogue needs conversion or minimum-quantity behavior, agree its exact rules before implementation. A useful product page should let a buyer understand the request they are preparing without assuming every supplier uses the same units.
