Mobile App Development for Spain, Built with AI Agents

Android accounted for 73.19% of mobile operating system use in Spain in September 2026 by StatCounter's measure, against 26.8% for iOS, so a team that tests mainly on iPhones is checking the minority of its users. The other early surprises are legal: Spanish law lets minors consent for themselves only once they are over 14, and the data protection authority's cookie guidance explicitly covers similar technologies on phones and tablets.

Curiosive is a software studio in Ankara, Türkiye. We build iOS and Android apps in React Native, so one codebase reaches both stores. Coding agents such as Claude Code and Cursor draft screens, tests and store metadata, and a senior engineer reviews every diff before it merges. Ankara's clock leads the Spanish mainland by two hours in winter and one in summer, so the bulk of your office day is also ours.

Android first for users in Spain, one React Native codebase

With that split, testing time should follow the users: a device matrix led by Android phones of different makes, screen sizes and OS versions, not one recent iPhone. React Native lets one TypeScript codebase ship to both stores, so the iOS share is not a second project. Google Play runs its own clock. Since 31 August 2026, new apps and updates must target Android 16 (API level 36) or higher, so an older project may need an upgrade before its next release. Spanish is the official EU language, which makes it the default locale for interface copy, date and number formats, store listings and the privacy texts users read before they consent.

Spain applies the ePrivacy device-storage rule through Article 22.2 of the LSSI (Ley 34/2002). Storing or reading data on a user's device is allowed only after clear and complete information and consent, except to transmit a communication or to provide a service the user expressly requested. Doing it without them is a minor infraction under Article 38.4 g), with fines of up to 30,000 euros under Article 39. The AEPD's cookie guide, updated in May 2024, covers similar technologies on phones and tablets, fingerprinting included. It says continuing to browse is not valid consent, the reject option must sit in the same layer and at the same level as accept with a similar mechanism, cookie walls with no alternative to consent may not be used, and as good practice consent should not last more than 24 months. In an app, analytics and attribution SDKs stay silent until the user chooses, and the choice is stored with its date.

Children, teenagers and age ratings for apps in Spain

The GDPR sets 16 as the age from which a child's own consent makes processing lawful for an online service offered directly to children, and lets each Member State set a lower age, but not below 13. Spain went lower: under Article 7 of the LOPDGDD, a minor's own consent counts only if they are over 14, and below that, consent-based processing needs the holder of parental authority or guardianship. The GDPR also asks the controller to make reasonable efforts to verify parental consent. An app likely to reach younger teenagers needs an age question, a parental route and a record of the outcome before any consent-based analytics or marketing runs. Store ratings changed too: Apple added 13+, 16+ and 18+ to its 4+ and 9+ ratings, and its new age rating questions had to be answered by 31 January 2026 to avoid an interruption when submitting updates.

Bizum checkouts and MiDNI identity in apps for Spain

Bizum is a Spanish mobile payment service backed by the main Spanish banks and used from customers' banking apps. Its website states 31.5 million active users and 120,000 online merchants (figures undated, checked 5 October 2026). Online, a shopper picks 'Pagar con Bizum', enters a phone number and approves the payment in their bank app, so an app that offers Bizum at checkout has to survive the trip to the bank app and back without losing the order or charging twice. Since 2 April 2026, people there can identify themselves legally with the digital DNI in the MiDNI app, and public and private entities are obliged to accept it under transitional provision 3 of Real Decreto 255/2025, de 1 de abril. If your service checks identity at a handover or a counter, design the staff flow around a phone screen, not only the plastic card.

What coding agents build in a mobile app and what engineers own

Agents do the volume: screens, navigation, list rendering, form validation, tests and first drafts of Spanish store metadata. Engineers own what can hurt users. Tokens live in the Keychain on iOS and the Keystore on Android. Auth refresh, server-side receipt and entitlement checks, offline queues and reconnection are designed and reviewed by a person, and so is everything specific to the Spanish build: the consent gate that keeps SDKs quiet until the LSSI choice is made, the branch for users under 14 and the Bizum return path. Permission prompts and store declarations stay with engineers too, from Apple's privacy manifest for required-reason APIs to Google Play's Data safety form, which must stay accurate for every SDK the app ships. We built TrendinChat (trendin.chat) in React Native in two weeks, and Coffict (coffict.com), a coffee ordering and loyalty app, on the same stack.

Questions

The things people ask before starting.

Should we build for Android or iPhone first in Spain?

Usually both at once from one React Native codebase, with testing weighted towards Android. StatCounter put Android at 73.19% of mobile use there in September 2026, so a launch that skips Android, or tests only on iPhones, misses most potential users.

What is the age of digital consent for apps in Spain?

Over 14. Article 7 of the LOPDGDD lets minors consent to processing of their own data only if they are over 14; below that, consent-based processing needs the holder of parental authority or guardianship. The GDPR default is 16, so consent flows copied from a 16-based template do not match Spanish law.

Do analytics SDKs in a mobile app need consent in Spain?

Yes, when they store or read data on the device for purposes the user did not expressly request. Article 22.2 of the LSSI requires clear and complete information and consent first. It is worth confirming the specifics for your app with a lawyer.

How much does it cost to build a mobile app for Spanish users?

Our one offer is AI-accelerated development starting from $2,000 per month, in US dollars, with scope and capacity fixed in writing once a discovery call has defined the app. What the app needs drives that scope: a Bizum checkout, a MiDNI identity step or a parental consent route for under-14s each add work.

How it starts

What happens after you write to us.

  1. 01

    You describe the product

One paragraph on what you are building, roughly when you need it, and who it is for. No brief, no form with fifteen fields.

  2. 02

You get a reply within a day

From the engineer who would do the work, not a sales team. If we are not the right fit we say so, and where possible we point you somewhere better.

  3. 03

    You get a scoped plan

Scope, price and timeline in writing before anything is committed. You decide with the numbers in front of you.

No long contract to begin, no lock-in to our tooling, and the code is yours from the first commit.
