Arizona's child-directed app rule and the ad SDKs inside your app
The statute judges whether an app is child-directed by its subject matter, visuals, animated characters, the ages of models, incentives and audio. Those are properties of the app itself, so the question is worth answering before any ad network is wired in, not after launch. If the answer is yes, the ad network and mediation settings become part of the appropriate measures that block the four listed categories. We keep those settings in reviewed code and configuration, and the release checklist covers them, rather than leaving them to a dashboard toggle. Federal rules apply at the same time. The FTC's amended COPPA Rule took effect June 23, 2025, and the general compliance deadline of April 22, 2026 has passed, so a child-directed app must already meet it.
