Mobile App Development for the Czech Republic

In September 2026, StatCounter measured Android at 68.94% and iOS at 30.9% of mobile operating system market share in the Czech Republic, so a Czech app tested mostly on an iPhone is tested on the minority device. The other early surprises are legal rather than technical: a digital consent age of 15, a rule on cookies and other storage on users' devices, and a bank-based identity service, Bank iD, that charges per user per year.

Curiosive, a studio working from Ankara, Türkiye, builds iOS and Android apps in React Native, so one TypeScript codebase reaches both stores. Coding agents such as Claude Code and Cursor do the volume, and a senior engineer reviews every change before it merges. Ankara runs one hour ahead of the Czech Republic in summer and two hours ahead in winter, which leaves most of the Czech working day shared.

Android and iOS share for app users in the Czech Republic

Android's lead among Czech phone users changes how test time is spent. React Native gives one codebase for both stores, but the bugs users notice are often platform specific: keyboard behaviour on forms, back navigation, notification permissions and performance on mid-range Android hardware. For a Czech audience the Android build deserves to be treated as a primary release, not a port. Google Play's own rules then apply: since 31 August 2026, new apps and app updates must target Android 16 (API level 36), and every app on Google Play needs a Data safety form that stays accurate and complete, including data collected through third-party SDKs. On iOS, Apple has required since 1 May 2024 that new or updated uploads declare approved reasons in the privacy manifest for each required-reason API the code uses. Czech is the official language, so Czech strings belong in localisation files from the first screen instead of being pulled out of hard-coded text later.

GDPR Article 8 sets 16 as the age from which a child's own consent makes processing lawful for information society services offered directly to children, and lets Member States go lower, but not below 13. The Czech Republic did: § 7 of Act No. 110/2019 Coll. on personal data processing sets the age at 15. Below 15, consent must be given or authorised by the holder of parental responsibility, and the controller must make reasonable efforts to verify this, so the age check is a real onboarding step. The second rule is Section 89(3) of the Czech Electronic Communications Act, which requires prior demonstrable consent before anyone stores or reads data on a user's terminal equipment, unless the storage is needed solely to transmit a message or for a service the user explicitly requested. Because the rule covers storage on users' devices generally, not only browser cookies, every analytics and advertising SDK should be checked against it before release. It is worth confirming the exact reading with a Czech lawyer.

Card payments, instant payments and Bank iD in Czech mobile apps

The Czech National Bank says payment cards still dominate cashless payments in Czech physical and online shops, so card checkout is the first payment path to get right. The CNB also promotes its CERTIS instant payments, live since the end of 2018, for merchant payments by QR code or NFC and for online purchases. They move koruna between Czech bank accounts within seconds, 24/7, and were available to 99% of Czech bank clients in 2026. For login and verified identity, Bank iD charges integrating companies per user per year, excluding VAT, under a price list valid from 1 January 2024: CZK 10 for CONNECT (plus a one-time CZK 0.49 per user), CZK 20 for IDENTIFY, CZK 60 for IDENTIFY PLUS and CZK 140 for IDENTIFY AML. Activating Bank iD services for a new company costs a one-time CZK 30,000. Those figures belong in the business case before anyone designs a sign-up screen, because the tier chosen sets a cost for every user, every year.

AI agents and engineers on a React Native app for Czech users

Each task starts as a written brief from an engineer: acceptance criteria plus the boundaries the coding agent may not cross. Inside the repository, the agent builds screens, navigation, list rendering and form validation, writes tests, and drafts store metadata and Czech and English strings, then checks its own work against types, lint rules and the test suite before proposing anything. Nothing merges until a senior engineer has read the diff. The parts that can hurt Czech users stay with engineers: token storage in the iOS Keychain and Android Keystore, auth refresh, the Bank iD sign-in flow, server-side checks of purchases and entitlements, the age gate at 15, the consent gate that stops SDKs writing to the device before the user agrees, offline and reconnection behaviour, permission prompts, and the privacy declarations Apple and Google review. TrendinChat (trendin.chat), a real-time trending-topic chat app, was built in React Native in two weeks, and Coffict (coffict.com), a coffee ordering and loyalty app, is React Native too.

Questions

The things people ask before starting.

Does a Czech app need parental consent for users under 16?

Only for users under 15, where the app relies on consent. Czech law sets the age of digital consent at 15 instead of the GDPR default of 16, so a 15-year-old can consent to an information society service offered directly to them. For younger users, consent must be given or authorised by the holder of parental responsibility, with reasonable efforts to verify it.

Does the Czech accessibility law apply to a mobile app?

It can, depending on the service the app delivers. Act No. 424/2023 Coll., effective since 28 June 2025, covers consumer services including e-commerce, financial services, e-book sales and electronic communications. Services provided by microenterprises, meaning fewer than 10 employees and annual turnover or balance sheet total of no more than EUR 2 million, are excluded. The Czech Trade Inspection Authority supervises products and most services.

Can a Czech iOS app take payments outside Apple In-App Purchase?

Yes, under the EU terms Apple says are effective from 1 October 2026. iOS apps in the EU may offer alternative payment processing alongside In-App Purchase, at a 20% commission, or 10% for program participants and for subscriptions after their first year. Distribution through alternative app marketplaces or Web Distribution is also possible, subject to a 5% Core Technology Commission.

Should a Czech startup build its app for Android or iOS first?

Build both from one React Native codebase and spend most device testing on Android, which leads iOS by more than two to one in the StatCounter September 2026 figures. The real choice is where testing effort goes, not which store to skip. Both stores also require in-app account deletion when users can create an account, so that feature is needed either way.

How it starts

What happens after you write to us.

  1. 01

    You describe the product

One paragraph on what you are building, roughly when you need it, and who it is for. No brief, no form with fifteen fields.

  2. 02

You get a reply within a day

From the engineer who would do the work, not a sales team. If we are not the right fit we say so, and where possible we point you somewhere better.

  3. 03

    You get a scoped plan

Scope, price and timeline in writing before anything is committed. You decide with the numbers in front of you.

No long contract to begin, no lock-in to our tooling, and the code is yours from the first commit.
