SaaS Development for Founders in the Czech Republic

The Czech Republic has been an EU member since 1 May 2004 but has not adopted the euro, so a subscription product sold there either prices in koruna or leaves Czech customers to carry the conversion. That is the first of several billing decisions under a Czech SaaS: a standard VAT rate of 21%, monthly VAT control statements for legal entities that are VAT payers, a Czech payment QR standard for invoices, and public buyers obliged to accept e-invoices in the European standard.

Curiosive is a studio in Ankara, Türkiye, where AI coding agents do the volume and senior engineers review every change. Agents produce the CRUD screens, admin views, migrations and test suites; engineers design tenant isolation, billing and entitlements. With Ankara one or two hours ahead of Prague depending on the season, review calls fit inside normal Czech office hours all year.

VAT on selling SaaS to customers in the Czech Republic

Under § 47 of the Czech VAT Act (Act No. 235/2004 Coll.), in the consolidated version in force from 1 January 2026, the standard rate is 21% and there is a single reduced rate of 12%. Services take 21% unless the Act provides otherwise. The 12% rate covers services listed in Annex 2 and electronically supplied newspapers, magazines and periodicals that would qualify for it in print. Across EU borders, services sold to businesses usually go under the reverse charge, with several important exceptions, while electronic services sold to consumers are taxed in the customer's country, subject to a EUR 10 000 threshold below which the seller's own country's VAT may apply. The One Stop Shop lets a seller register in one EU country to declare that VAT. Czech VAT payers generally also file a VAT control statement, monthly for legal entities, electronically and in the published format, with a statutory fine for late filing. Confirm the details with a Czech accountant.

Koruna pricing, QR Platba and SCA for Czech SaaS billing

Billing in koruna means storing amounts in minor units, tying each invoice to the price actually charged and testing plan changes in every currency on sale. For business customers who pay by bank transfer, QR Platba is a free, open Czech payment QR code standard built on a Czech Banking Association standard and not tied to any single bank. The customer photographs the code on the invoice and the payment order fills in automatically in their mobile banking app. The QR Platba site offers a format specification, a generator, a RESTful API specification, a SPAYD string validator and libraries on GitHub, so producing the code is agent work, while matching incoming payments to open invoices is engineer work. For card payments, the PSD2 strong customer authentication standards, applied since 14 September 2019, let payment providers skip authentication for a remote payment of no more than EUR 30, but only while the payer's remote payments since the last authentication stay within a cumulative EUR 100 or five consecutive transactions.

E-invoicing and public-sector buyers in the Czech Republic

If your SaaS bills Czech public bodies, Act No. 134/2016 Coll. on public procurement requires contracting authorities to accept and process e-invoices conforming to EN 16931-1:2017. Under § 279(5), that applied from 1 April 2019 for the 'Czech Republic and Czech National Bank' category and from 1 April 2020 for all other contracting authorities. Under Government Resolution No. 347/2017, central government bodies and their subordinate organisational units have also had to accept ISDOC or ISDOCX version 5.2 or higher since 31 December 2018. Wider change comes from the EU's VAT in the Digital Age directive: from 1 July 2030, invoices are to be issued as electronic invoices under the European standard, although Member States may allow other standards for domestic supplies, and invoices for reverse-charge supplies must be issued no later than 10 days after the chargeable event. Generating invoices as structured data from the start, rather than from a PDF template, avoids a rewrite later.

Multi-tenant SaaS architecture with AI agents for Czech customers

Tenant isolation, plan and entitlement logic and payment webhooks are designed by engineers, because a mistake there shows one customer's data to another or keeps a cancelled customer inside the product. Webhook handlers are idempotent, so a redelivered event is not processed twice, and trials, upgrades, failed payments and cancellations each get their own test. Coding agents produce the volume around that core, and a senior engineer reads each change before it merges. Czech rules add engineer-owned pieces: invoice data that feeds the VAT control statement, CZK amounts that match the QR Platba codes on invoices, plus EET 2.0 for products acting as cash-register software, since recording sales becomes an obligation on 1 January 2027. We built Reveal Software (reveal.software), personal video onboarding for SaaS products, on Hono, Drizzle ORM and PostgreSQL, and PicKey (pickey.ai), a visual password manager with Stripe subscription billing.

Questions

The things people ask before starting.

What VAT rate applies to SaaS subscriptions in the Czech Republic?

Plan for the standard 21% rate. Under § 47 of the Czech VAT Act, services are taxed at 21% unless the Act says otherwise, and the single reduced rate of 12% is limited to services in Annex 2 and qualifying electronically supplied periodicals. Sales to business customers in other EU countries usually fall under the reverse charge instead.

Does EET 2.0 affect a SaaS product used by shops in the Czech Republic?

It can, if the product acts as cash-register software for the shops using it. EET 2.0 covers contact payments between a business and a customer, including all cash payments. The president signed the law on 17 September 2026, and as of 5 October 2026 its publication in the Collection of Laws was still to follow. EET 2.0 becomes available in the MOJE daně portal on 1 November 2026.

How much does it cost to build a SaaS MVP for the Czech market?

Work runs as AI-accelerated development, starting from $2,000 per month, with scope agreed in writing. Both are starting points in US dollars, not quotes, so a budget set in koruna carries the exchange rate. Scope is fixed in writing after a discovery call.

Does the EU Data Act apply to a SaaS sold to Czech businesses?

It can. The Data Act has applied since 12 September 2025, and its recitals place SaaS among data processing services. Switching terms need a written contract with at most two months' notice and a transitional period of no more than 30 calendar days. Only reduced switching charges are allowed until 12 January 2027, and none from that date. Mostly custom-built services not offered at broad commercial scale are partly exempt.

How it starts

What happens after you write to us.

  1. 01

    You describe the product

One paragraph on what you are building, roughly when you need it, and who it is for. No brief, no form with fifteen fields.

  2. 02

You get a reply within a day

From the engineer who would do the work, not a sales team. If we are not the right fit we say so, and where possible we point you somewhere better.

  3. 03

    You get a scoped plan

Scope, price and timeline in writing before anything is committed. You decide with the numbers in front of you.

No long contract to begin, no lock-in to our tooling, and the code is yours from the first commit.

Looking for an engineering partner for the long haul?

A short note about the product, the timeline and who it is for is enough to start. You will hear back from the engineer who would do the work, not a sales team.
