Georgia age verification and minors rules for mobile apps
Georgia has one age verification law that is blocked in court and one app age bill that stalled. SB 351 would require covered social media platforms to make commercially reasonable efforts to verify users' ages, get parental consent for minor account holders under 16 and stop showing minors ads based on personal data other than age and location. Judge Amy Totenberg (N.D. Ga.) preliminarily enjoined it on June 26, 2025, before its July 1 effective date, and the state's appeal was argued in the Eleventh Circuit on March 10, 2026. SB 467, which would have required procedures to validate the age of users of any app, never moved past its referral to the Children and Families Committee on February 6, 2026, according to the General Assembly's site. For a social app, keep age and consent logic in a separate module that can be switched on if the injunction is lifted.
