Localising a Kosovo app: Albanian, Serbian and municipal languages
Article 5 of the Constitution makes Albanian and Serbian the official languages, and gives Turkish, Bosnian and Roma official status at municipal level. For an app that means two full locales from the first release, not a translation pass added the week before launch. We set up string extraction, plural rules and date and number formatting so that adding a language becomes a content task rather than a code change. If the app serves municipalities where Turkish, Bosnian or Roma has official status, scope those locales early, since store listings, notifications and onboarding copy need them too. Coding agents are useful here: they find hard-coded strings across hundreds of files, move them into translation files and draft store metadata in each language. A person still checks the wording before it ships.
