SaaS Development for Founders in Liechtenstein

What will a subscription cost a customer in Liechtenstein, and in which currency? The official currency is the Swiss franc, with euros also accepted. VAT follows the Mehrwertsteuergesetz, whose standard rate is 8.1%, and the Swiss QR-bill is the standard for written invoices. A SaaS product sold there needs its plans, tax handling and billing documents designed around those three facts, not bolted on after launch.

Curiosive builds SaaS from Ankara, Türkiye, with AI coding agents doing much of the writing and a senior engineer reviewing each change before it merges. Engineers design the multi-tenant data model, tenant isolation, plan and entitlement logic and the billing webhooks. Agents then fill in what sits around them: CRUD screens, admin views, migrations and test suites, each proposed only after the type checker, linter and tests pass.

VAT on SaaS sold to customers in Liechtenstein

The Mehrwertsteuergesetz (MWSTG), in the version in force since 1 January 2026, sets a standard VAT rate of 8.1%. The reduced 2.6% rate also covers electronic newspapers, magazines and books without advertising character, which matters if the product is a publication rather than software. For a vendor abroad the central rule is Art. 10: a foreign business supplying telecommunications or electronic services to non-taxable recipients in Liechtenstein is not exempt from VAT liability unless its turnover in Liechtenstein and abroad within a year is below CHF 100,000. The threshold counts turnover everywhere, not only sales into the country, so a SaaS company already at or above that figure is not exempt even if its first sale there is small. That makes it worth telling business customers from consumers at checkout. We model tax fields, customer type and price display so the rules can change without a rewrite. The tax position itself is one to confirm with an accountant.

Swiss franc billing and QR-bill invoices in Liechtenstein

The country has used the Swiss franc as its official currency since 1924, although euros are also accepted. For a subscription product that argues for CHF as a real plan currency rather than a converted display price. Invoicing raises a second point: the Swiss QR-bill is the standard for written invoicing in both Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Version 2.4 of SIX's implementation guidelines applies from 14 November 2026 and version 2.3 stays valid until November 2027, so an invoice generator built now should handle both. Public sector buyers follow their own rule. Under Art. 49b of the public procurement law (ÖAWG), contracting authorities must accept and process electronic invoices that comply with the European e-invoicing standard for awards above the thresholds. Underneath, the payment provider's events are the source of truth and webhook handlers are idempotent, so a redelivered event never bills or cancels twice.

Accessibility and national eID rules for SaaS in Liechtenstein

In the EU, the European Accessibility Act applies to services provided to consumers after 28 June 2025, including e-commerce, consumer banking, e-books and dedicated software, with an exemption for microenterprises: fewer than 10 persons and an annual turnover or balance sheet total not exceeding EUR 2 million. As of 2 October 2026, EFTA's EEA-Lex lists the Act as still under scrutiny for incorporation into the EEA Agreement, with no Joint Committee Decision adopted, so it has not yet been taken over there. A product that also provides one of those consumer services in EU countries has to meet it there unless it is exempt. Identity is the other local question. Under Art. 12a of the E-Government-Gesetz, a private company may use the national eID to identify people in its applications only with a permit from the Amt für Informatik, which may attach conditions, and with the holder's consent. If onboarding depends on the eID, the permit belongs in the plan before the integration is built.

Multi-tenant SaaS architecture: what engineers own, what agents build

The expensive mistakes in SaaS sit at the foundation. An engineer designs tenant isolation at the data model level, in PostgreSQL with Drizzle ORM, so every query is scoped to a tenant and the scoping is tested rather than trusted. Plan and entitlement logic lives in one place, so the product, the admin views and the billing state agree on what a customer can use. Once those boundaries exist, agents produce the volume: CRUD screens, admin tables, migrations and test suites, each change proposed only after the checks pass and merged only after review. Our SaaS work includes Reveal Software (reveal.software), personal video onboarding for SaaS products built with Hono, Drizzle ORM and PostgreSQL, PicKey (pickey.ai), a visual password manager with subscription billing, and Inspire Film (inspire.film), a virtual cinema with per-title entitlement.

Questions

The things people ask before starting.

Does a foreign SaaS company owe VAT on sales to consumers in Liechtenstein?

Yes, unless its total yearly turnover is below CHF 100,000. Under Art. 10 MWSTG, a foreign business supplying electronic services to non-taxable recipients there is exempt from VAT liability only if its turnover in Liechtenstein and abroad within a year stays below that figure. The standard rate is 8.1%.

Should SaaS invoices for business customers in Liechtenstein use the QR-bill?

Yes, the Swiss QR-bill is the standard for written invoicing in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Version 2.4 of the SIX guidelines applies from 14 November 2026, with version 2.3 valid until November 2027. We keep the invoice generator separate from subscription logic, so a version change does not touch billing state.

Does the European Accessibility Act apply to SaaS sold in Liechtenstein?

Not yet, as of 2 October 2026. EFTA's EEA-Lex lists the Act as still under scrutiny for incorporation into the EEA Agreement, with no Joint Committee Decision adopted. If you also provide covered consumer services, such as e-commerce, in EU countries, the Act already applies there unless you are a microenterprise.

What does a SaaS MVP cost, and can customers in Liechtenstein pay in Swiss francs?

Work runs as AI-accelerated development, starting from $2,000 per month, with scope agreed in writing. What your customers pay is a separate design decision: the product can carry CHF plans, the country's own currency, next to euro pricing. Ankara is one or two hours ahead of Liechtenstein, depending on the season.

How it starts

What happens after you write to us.

  1. 01

    You describe the product

One paragraph on what you are building, roughly when you need it, and who it is for. No brief, no form with fifteen fields.

  2. 02

You get a reply within a day

From the engineer who would do the work, not a sales team. If we are not the right fit we say so, and where possible we point you somewhere better.

  3. 03

    You get a scoped plan

Scope, price and timeline in writing before anything is committed. You decide with the numbers in front of you.

No long contract to begin, no lock-in to our tooling, and the code is yours from the first commit.

Looking for an engineering partner for the long haul?

A short note about the product, the timeline and who it is for is enough to start. You will hear back from the engineer who would do the work, not a sales team.
