SaaS Development for Selling Subscriptions in Switzerland

A subscription product sold in Switzerland runs into Swiss VAT early. A business supplying services in Switzerland must register once it earns at least CHF 100,000 a year from taxable and exempt supplies in Switzerland and abroad, and a foreign business that registers must appoint a tax representative domiciled there. Add payment slips that now have to be QR-bills, and electronic invoices for federal contracts above CHF 5,000, and billing becomes a large share of the product.

Curiosive works from Ankara, Türkiye, and builds SaaS with AI coding agents under senior engineer review. On a Swiss subscription product that review is aimed where mistakes cost most: which tenant can see which rows, which plan a company is on, and whether an invoice matches the payment behind it. Agents write the surrounding screens, admin tools, migrations and tests. Accounts for the database and hosting belong to you from the start.

Swiss VAT when you sell a SaaS product in Switzerland

Since 1 January 2024 the Swiss standard VAT rate has been 8.1%. The reduced rate is 2.6%, and accommodation has a special rate of 3.8%. The reduced rate also covers electronic newspapers, magazines and books without advertising character, which matters if your product is a publication rather than a tool. Registration applies once a business earns at least CHF 100,000 a year from taxable and exempt supplies in Switzerland and abroad, and a registered foreign business needs a Swiss-domiciled tax representative. Foreign businesses that supply only services subject to the acquisition tax are not liable; whether your sales fall under that depends on what you sell and to whom. The EU One Stop Shop handles supplies to customers in the EU, and Switzerland is in EFTA but outside the EU and the EEA, so OSS does not cover Swiss customers. Confirm your position with a Swiss accountant before launch, and store tax rates and customer VAT status as data rather than code.

QR-bill and e-invoicing for B2B SaaS customers in Switzerland

The QR-bill definitively replaced Swiss payment slips on 1 October 2022. Since 22 November 2025, version 2.3 of the Swiss Implementation Guidelines has required the structured address and an extended character set. Version 2.4 is valid as of 14 November 2026: it brings no technical change for invoices in Swiss francs (CHF), but euro invoicing is limited to the IBAN with SCOR reference and IBAN with unstructured message combinations, and version 2.3 remains valid until November 2027. If you sell to the Swiss Federal Administration, a Federal Council decision requires electronic invoices for contracts above CHF 5,000, for example entered in a service provider's web portal. For a SaaS product, invoice generation is a feature with a specification, not a PDF template. Collect structured customer addresses at signup and test invoice output against every format you support.

Tenant isolation, plans and idempotent billing webhooks

In a product that holds several Swiss companies' records in one database, the tenant model comes before any screen. Each customer row carries a tenant key, every query is filtered by it unless an engineer deliberately decides otherwise, and the test suite includes attempts to read another company's data that must fail. Billing state is taken from the payment provider's event stream, and each webhook handler records what it has already processed, so a duplicate delivery changes nothing. One module decides what each plan includes, and the rest of the product asks it instead of checking prices itself. Claude Code and Cursor then fill in CRUD pages, admin tooling, migrations and tests, with every diff passing type checks, lint and tests before a senior engineer approves it. Comparable work: PicKey (pickey.ai), a visual password manager with subscription billing, Inspire Film (inspire.film), where access is granted title by title, and Reveal Software (reveal.software), video onboarding for SaaS on Hono, Drizzle ORM and PostgreSQL.

Accessibility rules for a SaaS product in Switzerland

A partial revision of Switzerland's Disability Discrimination Act (BehiG) has been before Parliament since the Federal Council's dispatch of 20 December 2024. It would oblige service providers to take reasonable measures to reduce disadvantages for people with disabilities, for example better access to online services. As of 5 October 2026 Curia Vista still lists the bill with the National Council committee, which decided on 24 April 2026 to fold its measures into the Federal Council's indirect counter-proposal to the Inclusion Initiative, so it has no entry-into-force date. If you also sell to consumers in the EU, check whether the European Accessibility Act covers your service: it applies to services provided to consumers after 28 June 2025, such as e-commerce and consumer banking, with an exemption for microenterprises. Agents can apply labels, roles and keyboard handling across hundreds of components, with an engineer reviewing the result.

Questions

The things people ask before starting.

Does a foreign SaaS company need to register for Swiss VAT to sell in Switzerland?

Only once it reaches a threshold, and some foreign sellers not at all. Registration applies to businesses earning at least CHF 100,000 a year from taxable and exempt supplies in Switzerland and abroad. A registered foreign business needs a tax representative domiciled in Switzerland, while foreign businesses supplying only services subject to the acquisition tax are not liable.

Can a Swiss SaaS send QR-bills in euros?

Yes, with limits from 14 November 2026. Under version 2.4 of the Swiss Implementation Guidelines, euro QR-bills can use only the IBAN with SCOR reference or IBAN with unstructured message combinations. Swiss franc invoicing sees no technical change, and version 2.3 remains valid until November 2027, so there is time to update.

How much does it cost to build a SaaS MVP for the Swiss market?

Building starts from $2,000 per month, our single AI-accelerated development offer, priced in US dollars. An MVP is planned as monthly capacity rather than a fixed package price, and what each month delivers is agreed in writing. Tenant isolation and billing are designed before the screens that depend on them.

Can a studio in Ankara keep pace with a SaaS team in Switzerland?

Yes. Swiss clocks run two hours behind Ankara in winter and one hour behind in summer, which leaves most of the business day shared. Progress is tracked in written updates rather than meetings, a releasable increment ships every week, and one short call a week covers what needs a conversation.

How it starts

What happens after you write to us.

  1. 01

    You describe the product

One paragraph on what you are building, roughly when you need it, and who it is for. No brief, no form with fifteen fields.

  2. 02

You get a reply within a day

From the engineer who would do the work, not a sales team. If we are not the right fit we say so, and where possible we point you somewhere better.

  3. 03

    You get a scoped plan

Scope, price and timeline in writing before anything is committed. You decide with the numbers in front of you.

No long contract to begin, no lock-in to our tooling, and the code is yours from the first commit.

Looking for an engineering partner for the long haul?

A short note about the product, the timeline and who it is for is enough to start. You will hear back from the engineer who would do the work, not a sales team.
