VAT on SaaS subscriptions sold in Sweden
Sweden's standard VAT rate is 25%, with reduced rates of 12% and 6%. Skatteverket applies 25% to granting rights to systems or programs for automatic data processing, while e-books and e-journals comparable to printed publications are taxed at 6%. Across borders, EU rules usually let a business customer in another EU country account for VAT itself under the reverse charge, though there are several important exceptions. Telecommunications, broadcasting and electronic services sold to consumers are taxed in the customer's country, although below a threshold of EUR 10,000 they may be taxed where the seller is established. The One Stop Shop lets a seller register in one EU country to declare and pay that VAT. Sweden uses the krona (SEK), not the euro, so price lists, invoices and VAT amounts need a currency field from the start. It is worth confirming your position with an accountant before launch.
